Claudia Pinto, the director of ONE Children's Foundation and Gaby Carranza, director of Fundación VeracruzANA, visited San Miguel Tecuanipa on March 27. This time they went alone with the idea to have a more in-depth visit with all the families that had been noted in the previous visit.

As soon as their arrival they paid a visit the family of Don Víctor to see the progress of the construction; everyone had been working diligently to finish the project soon. Gabriel and Benito, Don Victor's sons, helped to sift the sand and the masons, also contributing to the work. In addition, the windows were being placed, while another person was stuccoing the walls of the bathroom and another one was repeating the earthenware. The engineer Óscar, from Misión La Paz supervised the work and gave us more details of the progress so far.

We went to the kitchen guided, by the smell of a delicious sauce of chicharrón with cactus that Carolina cooked, while Adriana threw the tortillas on the comal. As always, with utmost attentiveness towards us, we were invited to have lunch, an offer we could not refuse. During the meal we asked Don Víctor about the new families we would visit this time, he himself offered to accompany us to visit them and guide us to their homes. After we finished eating we set foot through the streets of Tecuanipa, but not before saying our goodbyes to the beautiful Ana Gaby, and Miguelito who was playing on the mountain of earth that his father and uncle were hanging, along with the cement mixture.

The next house we visited was Areli’s, who came out to meet us with her children José and Isabel; her husband Francisco was not there. Areli told us the situation they experienced in the earthquake; her house was a total loss, but they did not receive more than partial support, none of the walls are repaired, there is no roof, the entire area of land is full of rubble. For now they live in a tent, where they have accommodated the few belongings that were left to them, sleeping in the same space. We conducted our survey and everything matched the criteria of ONE Children's Foundation to be selected as one of the families we will support. The survey is how we determine to build their house. We made an agreement with Areli and our engineer Óscar so that the work of cleaning the land could begin, for we had to finish demolishing the remainders of the construction in order to start to build.

For our next visit we went up to the Church to see Francisco; his house is still standing, but the walls are totally damaged, the floor quartered and plunged in many places. Francisco and his wife tell us the fear they have every time the floor trembles again; they decided to have their children and grandchildren sleep in the room that suffered the least damage while he and his wife remain in the damaged construction. Gael and Frida, two of their grandchildren are in the room with their dad watching television and eating shaved ice to escape the heat that is felt in Tecuanipa now that spring has begun. After reviewing the house with Óscar, our engineer, and carrying out the data collection of the family, we said our goodbyes. However, we agreed to return the next day to review some of the documents they had.

Marco Antonio’s family was our last visit. We had been informed by his mother-in-law about the total loss of his property. We arrived to the home, accompanied by Don Víctor and Óscar, there we were greeted by Marco Antonio's mother for he was not home. His parents showed us the house that did not have a roof nor complete walls, for now both Marco Antonio and his children, as well as his brother and his children live with their parents in a room that has been lent to them while aid arrives. As they told us more about the loss they suffered with the earthquake, Marco Antonio's dad started cleaning chicken prey that he had in a bucket. We also agreed to return the next day to continue with the data collection.

We returned to Puebla to La Purificadora Hotel; they treated us wonderfully and we appreciated their donation and all their attentions to be able to stay with them during our time in Puebla.

Esta vez lo hicieron ellas dos solas pues la idea era hacer una visita más profunda a todas las familias que habían anotado en la visita anterior.

Recién llegando visitaron a la familia de don Víctor para ver los avances de la obra, estaban todos trabajando para poder acabar pronto; hasta Gabriel y Benito hijos de don Víctor ayudaban a cernir la arena para continuar con los trabajos y echarle una mano a los albañiles; además ya estaba ahí el aluminero colocando las ventanas, mientras otra persona estucaba las paredes del baño y otra más repellaba la loza. El ingeniero Óscar de Misión La Paz supervisaba la obra y nos dio más detalles sobre los trabajos realizados hasta ahora.

Nos asomamos a la cocina guiadas por el olor de una deliciosa salsa de chicharrón con nopal que Carolina cocinaba, mientras Adriana echaba las tortillas al comal; como siempre todos de lo más atentos con nosotras nos invitaron a comer y no pudimos negarnos, durante la comida le preguntamos a don Víctor por las nuevas familias que visitaríamos en esta ocasión y él mismo se ofreció a acompañarnos a visitarlas para guiarnos hasta sus casas, así que terminando de comer emprendimos camino por las calles de Tecuanipa, no sin antes despedirnos de la hermosa Ana Gaby y de Miguelito quien se encontraba jugando en la montaña de tierra que cernían su papá y su tío, y también con la mezcla de cemento para el repello.

La siguiente casa que visitamos fue la de Areli, quien salió a recibirnos con sus hijos José e Isabel, su esposo Francisco no se encontraba pero Areli nos contó la situación que vivieron en el terremoto, su casa fue pérdida total, sin embargo no recibieron más que apoyo parcial, ninguno de los muros se encuentra completo y no hay techo, todo el terreno está lleno de escombro y ahora viven mientras en una carpa, donde tienen acomodadas las pocas pertenencias que les quedaron, y en ese mismo espacio deben dormir. Realizamos la encuesta y todo coincide con los criterios de ONE Children’s Foundation para ser una de las familias que podemos apoyar, es así como decidimos construirles su casa, y nos ponemos de acuerdo con ella y el Ingeniero Óscar para que se inicien los trabajos de limpieza del terreno, pues se tenía que terminar de demoler lo que quedaba de su construcción.

Después subimos hasta la Iglesia para visitar a Francisco, su casa sigue en pie, pero los muros están totalmente dañados, y el piso cuarteado y sumido en muchas partes, Francisco y su esposa nos cuentan el temor que tienen cada vez que vuelve a temblar; así que han decidido que sus hijos y sus nietos duerman todos en un cuarto que no sufrió tantos daños mientras él y su esposa permanecen en la construcción dañada, Gael y Frida, dos de sus nietos se encuentran en el cuarto con su papá viendo la televisión y comiendo un raspadito para amortiguar el calor que se siente en Tecuanipa ahora que ya entró la primavera, después de revisar bien la casa con el Ingeniero Óscar y realizar el levantamiento de datos de la familia nos despedimos de ellos, sin embargo quedamos en volver al día siguiente para revisar algunos de los documentos de su propiedad.

La última familia que visitamos este día fue la de Marco Antonio, pues su suegra nos dijo que también tenía pérdida total; cuando llegamos hasta su casa acompañadas aún de don Víctor y Óscar nos recibió la madre de Marco Antonio pues él no se encontraba, sus papás nos enseñaron la casa que efectivamente tampoco tenía techo ni los muros completos, por ahora tanto Marco Antonio y sus hijos, así como su hermano y sus hijos viven con sus papás en un cuarto que les prestan mientras les llega la ayuda.  Mientras nos contaban más sobre la pérdida que sufrieron con el terremoto el papá de Marco Antonio empieza a limpiar unas presas de pollo que tenía en un balde, quedamos también de regresar con ellos al día siguiente para continuar con el levantamiento de datos.

Después nos regresamos a Puebla al hotel La Purificadora quienes nos trataron de maravilla y agradecemos su donativo y todas sus atenciones para poder hospedarnos con ellos durante nuestra estancia en Puebla.
