In a 5-day visit that began on April 20, Claudia and Gaby arrived in Tecuanipa to meet more families who still need support and to find the land for the relocation of Eva’s family. The first thing we did was get to Eva’s temporary home to see if they had news of available land. When we got there we learned that in San Miguel Tecuanipa there is an authority figure called Judge of Peace, who is responsible for regulating and giving legality to procedures for the sale of land and real estate. We proceed to go to him to ask about purchasing requirements and proceed with the purchase of the land; he took us to see one that unfortunately did not meet the characteristics we are looking for. Before saying goodbye to him, he took us to visit one of his children, Crisoforo, who’s home had also fallen but with the savings they had, was able to rebuild it amongst relatives.
During the first three days we dedicated ourselves to interviewing new families, and that is how we learned the stories of Alberto and Prisciliana; 7 children, 6 of them minors, and one of their daughters has autism. Their house has partial damages; it didn’t fall, it only has some minor cracks in a few walls. We take their information to take them into account for any possible future support we could provide them.
Eloy, like every time we visit, was very supportive in order to locate the other families we had pending to visit. He accompanied us to Clara’s house, a single mother with 4 children, all of them minors. Ana María is the oldest, at 13 she left her studies to take care of her younger siblings; Luisa of 11, Daniel of 5 and José of 6 months, when her mother has to go out to work. Their only source of income comes from the sales of products that their mother buys to later resell, only at times when she has money to invest. They do not have land, the place where they live is where the house they used to rent fell, the owner of the land allowed them to stay there but due to lack of resources they had to build a small room made of cardboard, through which the water and animals come in. They also don’t have a bathroom, thus they improvised with a small pit a bit farther away. We decided that this will be a family which we will relocate in a new land to build their home.
We also met the family of Perfecto Rosales, they also suffered partial damage to their home; the upper floor fell completely and the ground floor was very affected, in one of the rooms the water seeps through. Half of the family is sleeping in a tent. Their family is quite large, within the family there are 4 families; two of their daughters are single mothers. In total there are 12 members, 6 of them minors.
Continuing down that same street we arrived at Angelica’s house, her mother received us for she was not there. We went up again to the Church to look for her since she was receiving the support from a food pantry organization which delivers on that day in San Miguel. When we arrived Angelica could barely carry the groceries under one arm and her daughter Anahí in the other. We helped her back to her house. There we surveyed her while she breast-fed her 4-month-old baby. Angelica told us that the house that fell completely is from her husband’s uncle, since they do not have their own land, they have been living up until now in a tent, in which she, her husband Víctor Hugo, and little Anahí live.
The last new family of this visit was Elpidio. We visited the place where they have their tent; amongst the rubble where their house was, a small corner room remains. They do not have a wide terrain making them one of the families that we are also going to relocate. At last we were able to meet their 5 children, all of them minors, the youngest of them goes to rehabilitation in Tochimilco for he has motor skill problems.
On the fourth day of the visit Olga and Ana arrived to partake in meeting the new chosen families and share with them the good news that they would receive support, as well as being relocated for neither family owns any land. They met again with Eva, Clara, Elpidio and their children, each family in the places where they are living. Eva and Mauro told them again how they experienced the earthquake and a little of its history. We continued with Elpidio and Victoria, they welcomed us happy to know that we are going to support them. It was the birthday of the mother of Elpidio and they insisted that we stay for lunch to celebrate with them, but unfortunately we had to return to Mexico City and we still had more families visit. Then we continue to where Clara lives with her children, who could not help but cry when she heard the good news. Without a doubt these three families filled our hearts with joy for being able to help them.
We also payed Julia and Areli a visit to see the progress of their homes. The home of Julia already had the foundation, while Areli’s is being worked on, because at the time the builders were devoted to removing the rubble that remained from her fallen house. Julia tells us how her son Roberto asks a lot for the girls from Los Angeles in Mexico, and asks God bless them for the help they are bringing to Tecuanipa. At Areli’s house her husband Francisco makes us laugh a lot by telling stories of his children José and Isabel.
Finally, we arrived at the home of Don Víctor and his family. The day before the town priest had gone to bless the house, Claudia and Gaby were present, and now Ana and Olga also arrived to congratulate them on the house. They had prepared a meal to celebrate all together.
During the blessing of Don Víctor’s house, the acolyte who accompanied the father, Tomás, happens to be Faustina’s brother who also lost his home; they and took us to see her. On our way we also stopped by the house of Carmela González, the house where they lived had fallen thus they relocated to a different land of their property but it is very small and is next to a ravine. There she lives with her children in a room made out of cardboard.
Finally, in this visit we met Fabiola Rojas who had received a tent to support her for her fallen house, currently she lives with her mother’s house with her two daughters.
This trip of many days would have not been possible without the great support of the Habita group and especially La Purificadora hotel, who supported us with the lodging in each visit we make to Puebla.

En una visita de 5 días que inició el 20 de abril llegaron Claudia y Gaby hasta Tecuanipa para conocer a más familias que aún necesitan apoyo y buscar el terreno para reubicar a la familia de Eva, así que lo primero que hicimos fue llegar hasta su casa para ver si nos tenían noticias de algún terreno que estuviera disponible, al llegar hasta allí nos enteramos que en San Miguel Tecuanipa existe una autoridad que se llama Juez de Paz, quien es el encargado de regular y dar legalidad a trámites de compra venta de terrenos e inmuebles, así que nos presentamos con él para preguntarle los requisitos y nos orientara como proceder ante la compra de un terreno, él mismo nos llevó a ver uno que lamentablemente no cumplía las características que buscamos. Antes de despedirnos de él nos llevó a visitar la casa de Crisóforo uno de sus hijos, que también se cayó pero con los ahorros que tenían pudieron reconstruirla entre los familiares.
Durante los tres primeros días nos dedicamos a entrevistar nuevas familias, y así fue como conocimos las historias de Alberto y Prisciliana, con 7 hijos, 6 de ellos menores de edad, una de sus hijas tiene autismo. Su casa cuenta con daños parciales, no se cayó solo tiene algunas grietas menores en algunos muros. De cualquier manera les tomamos los datos para tenerlos en cuenta en futuros apoyos.
Eloy como cada vez que vamos nos apoyó mucho para poder localizar a las familias que teníamos pendientes de visitar, así que nos acompañó a casa de Clara, una madre soltera con 4 hijos, todos ellos menores de edad. Ana María es la mayor con tan solo 13 años dejó de estudiar pues es quien cuida de sus hermanitos Luisa de 11, Daniel de 5 y José de 6 meses cuando su mamá tiene que salir a trabajar, viven solo de la venta de algunos productos que ella compra y revende cuando tiene dinero para invertir. Ellos no tienen terreno, el lugar donde viven es donde solía estar una casa que rentaban pero se cayó, la dueña del terreno les permitió seguir allí pero por falta de recursos tuvieron que construir un pequeño cuarto hecho de cartón, por el cual se cuela el agua y los animales. No tienen ni siquiera un baño, tuvieron que improvisar también un poco más alejado una pequeña fosa. Decidimos que esta también será una familia que reubicaremos en un nuevo terreno para poder construirles su casa.
Conocimos también a la familia de Perfecto Rosales, ellos sufrieron también daño parcial, la planta alta se cayó por completo y la planta baja quedó muy afectada, en uno de los cuartos se mete el agua. La mitad de la familia está durmiendo en carpa, ellos son muchos, pues dentro del núcleo familiar hay 4 familias, ya que dos de sus hijas son madres solteras, en total son 12 integrantes, 6 de ellos menores de edad.
Siguiendo por esa misma calle llegamos hasta casa de Angélica, y nos recibió su mamá, ella no estaba así que subimos de nuevo hasta la Iglesia a buscarla pues estaba recibiendo el apoyo de unas despensas que alguna organización entregaba ese día en San Miguel, cuando llegamos Angélica apenas y podía cargar la despensa en un brazo y a su hija Anahí en el otro, así que la ayudamos para volver a su casa y encuestarla, mientras le daba pecho a la pequeña de 4 meses, Angélica nos contaba que la casa que se cayó por completo es del tío de su esposo, pues ellos no tienen ni siquiera terreno, los apoyaron hasta ahora con una carpa, en la que viven ella, su esposo Víctor Hugo y la pequeña Anahí.
La última familia nueva de esta visita fue Elpidio, visitamos el lugar donde tienen su carpa, todavía sobre algunos escombros donde estaba su casa en una pequeña esquina en donde solo cabe un cuarto, no tiene un terreno más amplio así que también es una de las familias que vamos a reubicar. Ya por fin pudimos conocer a sus 5 hijos, todos ellos menores de edad, el más pequeño de ellos va a rehabilitación a Tochimilco pues tiene problemas motrices.
Para el cuarto día de visita llegaron Olga y Ana también a conocer a las nuevas familias elegidas para darles la buena noticia que los apoyaríamos y reubicaríamos pues ninguno cuenta con terreno. Conocieron a Eva, Clara, Elpidio y sus hijos, pues los visitamos de nuevo a cada uno en los lugares donde están viviendo. Eva y Mauro les contaron nuevamente a ellas como vivieron el sismo y un poco de su historia; seguimos con Elpidio y Victoria, nos recibieron felices de saber que los vamos a apoyar, era cumpleaños de la mamá del Elpidio y nos insistían quedarnos a comer para festejar con ellos, pero lamentablemente debían volver a Ciudad de México y todavía nos faltaban más familias por visitar. Después seguimos hasta donde vive Clara con sus hijos, quien no pudo contener el llanto al enterarse la buena noticia, sin duda estas tres familias nos llenaron el corazón de alegría por poderles ayudar.
Visitamos también a Julia y Areli para ver los avances, la casa de Julia ya tiene los cimientos y la de Areli ya trabajan en ellos, pues en este tiempo los constructores se dedicaron a retirar los escombros que aún quedaban de su casa que se cayó. Julia nos cuenta como su hijo Roberto pide mucho por las chicas de Los Ángeles en México, para que Dios las bendiga por la ayuda que están llevando hasta Tecuanipa. En casa de Areli, su esposo Francisco nos hace reír mucho contándonos historias de sus hijos José e Isabel.
Por último llegamos hasta casa de don Víctor y su familia, el día anterior el sacerdote del pueblo había ido a bendecir la casa, Claudia y Gaby estuvieron presentes, y ahora llegaban también Ana y Olga para darles la enhorabuena por la casa, y ellos nos tenían preparada una comida para festejar todos juntos.
Durante la bendición de la casa de don Víctor, el acólito que acompañaba al padre se llama Tomás y es hermano de Faustina quien también perdió su casa, y nos llevó a verla. De paso también conocimos la casa Carmela González, la casa donde vivía se cayó y se tubo que reubicar a un terreno de su propiedad pero que es muy chico y está junto a un barranco, ahí vive con sus hijos en un cuarto que hicieron de cartón.
Por último en esta visita conocimos a Fabiola Rojas quien vive recibió de apoyo una carpa por la casa que se cayó y por ahora está viviendo en casa de su mamá con sus dos hijas.
Este viaje de tantos días no hubiera sido posible sin el gran apoyo como siempre de grupo Habita y sobre todo el hotel La Purificadora quienes nos apoyan con el hospedaje en cada visita que hacemos a Puebla.
